Common Problems: Full Treatment - Class II

This phase of treatment normally begins at age 11 to 12+. Since the adult dentition is present, it is time to strive for the ideal functional and aesthetic relationships. Three common classifications and examples are:

  • Class I - molar and cuspid positioning with other concerns
  • Class II - forward positioning of upper molars and cuspids
  • Class III - forward positioning of lower molars and cuspids
Class II
Upper molars and cuspids positioned forward of the ideal relationship
Examples of Dr. Turners Treatment
treatment 5a Problem: Protrusion of the upper teeth with an anterior deep bite relationship.

treatment 5

treatment 6a Solution: Treatment involved alignment of the teeth, improvement of the deep bite relationship, and correction of the anterior-posterior discrepancy.

treatment 6

Problem: A "v" shaped upper arch with a bilateral posterior crossbite and an anterior deep bite relationship. Significant crowding is also present which included the impaction of the upper right cuspid.

treatment 7

Solution: Treatment involved correcting the posterior crossbite while improving the shape of the upper dental arch. The impacted cuspid was brought into the dental arch as the other teeth were aligned. The anterior deep bite and anterior-posterior discrepancy was also corrected. The lower right 2nd premolar is missing but the primary tooth is retained.
treatment 8

treatmen9at Problem: Severe crowding which includes the impaction of permanent teeth and a skeletal and dental anterior-posterior discrepancy.

treatment 9

treatment 10a treatment 10b Solution: Treatment involved combined Phase I and Phase II therapy and the extraction of four permanent teeth. Note the improvement not only in the teeth but also in the profile.
treatment 10

treatment 11 Problem: Severe anterior-posterior discrepancy with protrusion and spacing of the upper anterior teeth. Also present is a crossbite of the 1st premolars and the lower incisors are hitting the roof of the mouth.

treatment 11

treatment 12a Solution: Treatment involved crossbite correction, space closure in the upper arch, correction of the anterior deep bite relationship, and significant improvement in the anterior-posterior relationship. It was no longer necessary for the patient to bite "forward" to achieve a reasonable occlusion and mask the dental relationship.
